Precision Surgical Phase

What happens intraoperatively is also a large part of successful outcomes.  Dr. Sumko and his team has prepared for years to offer the most advanced and minimally invasive approach to protecting muscles, tendons, ligaments, and tissues.  He has been developing and improving muscle-sparing and less invasive approaches since 2014.  The industry is only just starting to catch up.  The precision surgical phase includes:

orthopedic surgery
  1. Dr. Sumko has spent years working hand-in-hand with anesthesia to provide the most minimally invasive and safe anesthesia. A short acting spinal anesthetic provides decreased blood pressure, less risk of stroke, and also reduces the length of nerve and muscle inhibition postoperatively allowing patients to ambulate very shortly after entering the post recovery room.”
  2. Dr. Michael Sumko and his team have been performing muscle-sparing and less invasive techniques for total knees and total hips since 2014. He has continued to perfect and pioneer these approaches to achieve optimal outcomes and reduce postop rehabilitation times by almost half.  His less invasive approaches have also reduced significant, pain, swelling, and rehabilitation allowing a more quick return to activity.  Studies have shown that not cutting the muscle puts you 6 weeks ahead and therapy from day 1.
  3. Pre, intraoperative, and post operative antibiotics
  4. Dr. Sumko is specialized in outpatient muscle-sparing total knees and hips and performs 10-15 a week
  5. Dr. Sumko uses a complete muscle sparing approach to a total knee as well as a partial knee. This is called a “sub vastus” approach.
  6. Dr. Sumko is specialized in performing a “Direct Superior” total hip approach which allows a faster recovery without hip precautions. Most people will use the walker on the day of surgery or post op day one only.
