Before Your Surgery

Preparation is crucial for a successful surgery and a faster recovery. To ensure you’re fully ready for your joint replacement surgery, follow these important guidelines:

  • Stop Alcohol Consumption: Cease alcohol intake 3 weeks before and 3 weeks after surgery to reduce risks of bleeding and promote healing.
  • Quit Smoking/Nicotine: Smoking and nicotine should be stopped 3 months before and 3 months after surgery to prevent complications like delayed healing and infection.
  • Stop Supplements & Vitamins: Discontinue any supplements and vitamins 3 weeks before surgery and 3 weeks after, unless directed otherwise by your healthcare provider.
  • Control Blood Sugar: Keep your hemoglobin A1C below 7.0 to minimize surgical risks.
  • Pre-Surgery Checklist: Ensure you’re ready for surgery by refraining from eating or drinking after midnight, showering with Hibiclens soap, and bringing necessary documents like your picture ID and insurance cards to the hospital.
  • Stop Blood thinners and Semiglutide medication: You will receive specific instruction of when to stop blood thinners and semiglutide medications, or your surgery will be cancelled.

Increase Protein intake: Two to three weeks before begin to increase your protein intake by utilizing the Nutrition Bundle shakes, or finding ways in your diet to increase protein to promote wound healing, maintain muscle mass, and reduce infection

Following these steps will ensure that your body is in optimal condition for the procedure, setting the foundation for a smooth recovery.
